These days have made me realize once again, how grateful I am to be a teacher.
I simply belong in a classroom full of students and not behind a laptop. It breaks my heart to have a screen between myself and my lovely students.
Teaching is not only passing on new information to fresh minds, but it is also sharing a joke, a smile and a memory. I have missed so much about school that if I start listing all the aspects that I miss, I might not stop. One of the things that I have missed the most is witnessing those ‘aha’ moments in the classroom. This is when you hear that thrill from a student who has understood the taught subject. That is the exact moment that reminds you about how rewarding this job is.
I miss all the curious little eyes ready to learn new things; the hugs and notes or pictures I used to receive; the questions that came out of the blue; the high fives and laughs; all of the things which cannot easily transfer through in an online session.
I believe that learning never ends and here we are still learning new things every day. Distance Learning has taught me to be more adaptable, creative and IT literate.
I believe with all my heart that, no matter how hard this process is, we are strong and resilient. As a team we will get through this tough journey and things will be back to normal.
