Digital Learning & Technology
Today’s children are now entering school as fully-fledged digital natives embracing technology from an early age.
NIS is committed to developing a high technology environment. In 2019-2020, our passionate teachers will effectively use technology to enhance the quality of learning. Students from Grades 5 to 12 will be strongly encouraged to bring their own devices to school and to use these across all subjects.
The preferred device will be an Acer Spin 11 Chromebook, which we are looking to make available for order and purchase through the school. In preparation for this evolution, our infrastructure features a high speed wireless network across the school, with classrooms being fitted with upgraded short-throw projectors, or interactive touch-screen displays.
Students are also exposed to different kinds of tech during their learning at the school to help enhance their learning. This includes Microsoft’s Desktop IT Suites, using tablet devices (both Apple and Google products) and Destiny – the electronic library system.
NIS is a Google For Education school, utilizing the full range of apps in the powerful G-Suite to engage students and parents in their learning journey. We also receive updated support and resources to develop digital readiness programs for our students. This approach maximizes connections within and beyond the classroom, with students collaborating and creating in new and engaging ways. Through this approach, students develop an IT skillset that will be indispensable in preparing them for their future.
G-Suite is a cloud-based learning platform that enables educators to create opportunities for learning, streamline administrative tasks and challenge their students to think critically – all without disrupting current workflows.
NIS works with students to educate them around using G-Suite in a productive and responsible manner. NIS also strengthens partnerships with parents by providing training sessions around the use of G-Suite, and broader ICT concepts.
