At NIS, we are proud to say that we only recruit teaching staff with a passion for lifelong learning and the desire to share that passion with children, colleagues and the community.

Our teaching staff have worked internationally and here in the region, and boast between them a vast range of skills and experiences.

Mike began his career in school leadership as an Assistant Principal in Whitewater, Wisconsin, and was named the 1999 State of Wisconsin ‘Assistant Principal of the Year’. Mike was a principal in schools in Wisconsin and Michigan, US, before heading to the UAE to take up the position of Cluster Manager and Educational Professional Development Specialist, Abu Dhabi. Internationally, he worked as an Executive Principal in Doha, Qatar and Dubai, UAE.

Mike has also worked as a Principal Coach and Adjunct Professor in the US.

He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Technology Education from Northern Michigan University and a Master of Science Degree in Education Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

As the oldest of six boys, Mike grew up with a love of working with children and young adolescents, and has been a passionate teacher, coach and school leader dedicated to “doing what is best for kids”.

Althea grew up in South Africa before relocating to Muscat, Oman with her family and then moving to Dubai in 2002. Althea studied Human Resources Management which has given her invaluable administrative and recruitment experience. Althea then went on to complete her Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) through the University of Sunderland followed by a Master’s in Education from Murdoch University.

Althea is an experienced educator with more than 13 years in international education. Althea is passionate about a student-centered learning environment where students use hands-on, real life learning experiences to develop their communication and thinking skills along with learning through inquiry, problem solving and developing a student’s independent learning skills as key focus areas.

Daspo Yiappos is the Head of Teaching & Learning and interim Head of Secondary to support our leadership team at the school.
With over 15 years of experience in the Education industry in the Middle East, Daspo is an accomplished international educator with vast school improvement skills. Previously, she was the Director of Education at BEAM schools, a group of 6 international schools in the UAE.
She has also led inspections for the KHDA during the last 4 years. Daspo is a visionary leader and strategic advisor who has proven her expertise in teaching, learning, school transformation, strategic planning, leadership coaching, learning observation, academic feedback and evaluation along with improvement planning. These combined areas of expertise are in line with Nibras’ objective of academic improvement and have made Daspo a precious asset for the school.

Ahmed grew up in Saudi Arabia but is originally from Egypt.

Ahmed is a Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA). He holds a BA in Commerce from Al Azhar University in Cairo, and an MA in Finance and Business Administration from Sadat Academy for Management Sciences. Ahmed comes from a corporate background as he worked in many multinational companies such as Regus MEA, Abdul Latif Jameel Group, TEZ tour and Raya Group.

Beside Ahmed’s passion in the business and finance fields, he is a very people-oriented person. He is driven by building a family-oriented community in the school that is built on trust and loyalty to better support parents and the students in their learning adventure at NIS.
