This has been hard on all of us; teachers, parents and most of all students. Yet they have shown so much resilience and positivity in these times. I get to see them “virtually”, but I really miss being inside my classroom with “my kids”. In there, we create our own little learning world and there is nothing like it. Here are a few things I miss most about being in the classroom.
I miss the way they make me laugh. I really like to hear the funny things they say and do every single day. I miss the random things they share, like “Miss, I have a green bike,” and I respond, “wow, that’s wonderful,” and to the students, at that moment, it means so much.
I miss the way they call “Hi Miss” after snack and lunchtimes, even when they just saw me a few minutes before. It’s so funny and sweet to me when they do this. I miss the letters and pictures they make for me. It means so much when a student makes a card or a drawing. I have a special spot to display these near my desk.
I miss their excitement. When my students are totally interested in whatever activity they’re doing, it makes me happy. I always try to make learning as much fun as possible. Lastly, I miss the hugs, high fives and hair ruffles.
We are making the best of the situation, we talk to each other online and I truly look forward to those moments. The parents have been amazingly supportive and have shown great patience, as we have transitioned into this new way of teaching and learning. It has not been easy but they have been amazing at adapting, teaching and supporting their kids at home. Thank you!
Well wishes to all in this time.
Miss Leandra.
