It was a fun-filled International Day Festival as the entire NIS community gathered together to celebrate diversity. Our families, students, and teachers were so happy to showcase their different cultures and traditions.
With the support of the NIS Parent Community, the festival was filled with various country booths that showcased food, artifacts, activities, and other cultural elements.
For example, the Brazil booth had a live barbecue setup for guests to taste their famous churrasco. Other country booths such as India, UK, USA, Pakistan, Palestine, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon also had their authentic food available for attendees to enjoy.
The Philippine booth, meanwhile, highlighted the unique qualities of their culture such as love for singing and family. Guests who visited their booth were given the chance to sing karaoke and also take photos in their family photobooth corner.
The UAE and GCC booths had traditional majlis which gave the guests the
chance to experience true Arabian hospitality.
Other booths such as Egypt, Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Kenya and South Africa had key artifacts on display for guests to better understand the history and culture of their respective countries.
Apart from activities in the different country booths, live entertainment was provided as well. Teachers, staff members, students and families all worked together in the preparation of the different performances for the celebration.
It was truly a memorable event as the International Day Festival also became a platform to promote the school’s Zero Hunger Project. Spearheaded by our Gift and Talented students and student leaders, attendees of the festival were asked to bring bags of rice when entering the
festival grounds. The rice bags were then donated to Syria and Turkey with the help of the UAE Food Bank. To read more about this click here.
“It was an amazing day as students got the chance to learn about different cultures. Thank you to everyone for all their efforts,” Ms. Fatima Ghalib, a parent, said about the momentous event.
“The event was wonderful with all the country stalls, food, and performances. Everything was so good. Thank you to all the teachers, parents, and students who put so much effort to make it such an amazing gathering,” another parent, Ms. Nida Tariq, shared.
