Nibras International School, a leading American curriculum school in Dubai, proudly hosted its second TEDx event, themed “Rewriting the Narrative.” This powerful event brought together six high school students who delivered original, thought-provoking talks as part of their English class learning experience.
Building on the success of the school’s first TEDx event, this year’s edition featured a brand-new group of student speakers. Each participant explored meaningful topics—ranging from personal development and mental health to technology and cultural identity—offering fresh perspectives and inspiring ideas.
Empowering Student Voices Through TEDx
Three Grade 12 students shared deeply personal and insightful talks:
- Alexander spoke about the transformative power of music and how it helps shape identity and emotional expression.
- Basra delved into the impact of technology and algorithms on how we define ourselves in the digital world.
- Nandy offered a heartfelt look at overcoming generational trauma and reclaiming one’s narrative.
Joining them were three Grade 11 students with equally impactful messages:
- Grace focused on the importance of self-love and building confidence from within.
- Mila challenged the idea of selfishness by highlighting the value of prioritizing personal needs.
- Nijar explored how curiosity fuels discovery and growth, encouraging others to stay inquisitive.
These talks not only captured the attention of the live audience but also embodied the spirit of TEDx: ideas worth spreading.
A Platform for Growth and Self-Discovery
The TEDx Nibras International School event was more than a speaking opportunity—it was a transformative experience for the students involved. Each speaker developed critical life skills such as public speaking, self-reflection, and effective communication.
“Watching our six high school speakers take the stage was one of the most fulfilling moments of my teaching career,” said Ms. Alice Nazareth, Secondary English Teacher and event organizer. “They didn’t just deliver speeches. They owned their narratives, challenged perspectives, and inspired change. This journey reminded me that education isn’t just about academics; it’s about empowering voices that deserve to be heard.”
Parents echoed this sentiment with pride and gratitude.
“I am very proud of the students,” shared Ms. Tokarev, a parent of one of the speakers. “Thank you to Ms. Alice and everyone for all their guidance and support.”
